Since its inception, DP-REG members have collaborated and coordinated between members to build complementary expertise to address challenges in regulating digital platforms. To reflect and emphasise this approach, in 2024, DP-REG members agreed to the following goals to guide the purpose, direction and objectives of DP‑REG for 2024-26:

As DP-REG comes to the end of that period, members have considered the increasing need for a clear understanding and articulation of how existing regulatory frameworks apply as digital platform technologies continue to develop rapidly, impacting how we live and work.

Following our review, DP-REG members have agreed to retain these goals for 2026-28, and to make some changes to our strategic priorities for 2026-28.

To build capacity across 2026-28, DP-REG members will continue to:

  • Increase members’ digital platforms regulatory capability: DP-REG members will share information and progress joint work to increase their capability
  • Increase information/intelligence sharing capability: DP-REG members will collaborate to improve information sharing systems and authorising environments.

To promote regulatory coherence across 2026-28, DP-REG members will:

  • Collaborate on regulatory development: DP-REG members will collaborate bilaterally and multilaterally to identify reform opportunities and promote regulatory coherence.

To respond to emerging risks and opportunities across 2026-28, DP-REG members will:

  • Support right-size regulation: DP-REG members will collaborate to support industry innovation that leads to productivity and efficiency benefits while ensuring that implementation protects Australians.

We have established metrics to measure our progress against our goals and strategic priorities:

  • Execute a memorandum of understanding between DP-REG member regulators by 30 June 2026.
  • Holding a DP-REG civil society engagement activity this year, with attendee satisfaction measured by a post-event survey.
  • Holding a series of learning and development sessions held for DP-REG member regulators this calendar year.
  • Release of a paper regarding dispute resolution this year.
